The Problem

Status of Blindness in India:

There are many causes of blindness. From among them Corneal Blindness affects over 2 million Indians, a majority of them being children. About 30,000 more are added to this count every year.
Almost all of them have hope to see. But only if you and me have the will.

People with corneal blindness can get back vision.
In most cases lost sight can be restored through the medical intervention of corneal transplant a from donated eye.

There is no artificial substitute for human tissue (cornea). The transplant process depends upon the priceless gift of corneal donation from one human to another.

Corneal transplants can help restore sight easily, effectively and economically.

There are about 13 million blind in India and above 1 million get added to this number every year. Among these about 2 million are curable blind through transplant. They are corneally blind people, who can get back vision.
Unfortunately there is huge lack of eye donation which doesn't help correct the present status of corneal blindness.

Obstacles to overcome

The reason for very low number of eye donations are manifold

  • Lack of awareness in general public
  • Improper development of infrastructure
  • Absence of motivation even among the trained personnel
  • Social and religious taboos
  •

This initiative is an attempt towards removing these obstacles.
